Last issue we ran an article that celebrated the success of the National Anti-Poverty Organization and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) at having their issues heard during Canada's review at the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

The World March of Women in the Year 2000

The World March of women in the Year 2000 is an international action to improve women's living conditions. The demands of the March centre around eliminating poverty and violence against women.

Over 1400 women's groups in 115 countries have already joined in the March that involves actions internationally and locally. The World March is a global action that will mark the new millennium by demonstrating women's ongoing determination to change the world.

Beijing +5

Women's groups met in February of this year to develop strategies and plans of action for Canada's review on its commitment to the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The review itself takes place in June 2000, but already Canadian Women Acting on Beijing have started plans to research and push the agenda on the topics of Violence against Women, International Treaties, Trade Agreements, the Environment, and Science and Technology.
