The ENSEMBLE! Pan-Canadian Women’s Centres Conference, held in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1994 included delegates from eighty-five women’s centres who represented all ten provinces and two territories. The conference was a forum for women to meet, share ideas and resources, and develop a pan-Canadian network of women’s centres. This conference report includes summaries of workshops held on the health promotion work of women’s centres, women and literacy, poverty and development, anti-racism, advocacy and funding, aboriginal women, working with women from ethno-racial communities, and women and survivors of violence. There are also summaries of the full-group sessions on community and feminist leadership, accessibility and inclusion of disabled women, and building Ensemble, a pan-Canadian network of women's centres.

This report contains the proceedings of the “Measuring Well-being and Social Indicators” symposium that was held in October, 1996 and organized by the Canadian Council on Social Development and by Human Resources Development Canada. The report chronologically documents the presentations and workshops held at the symposium and outlines the major themes and discussions that emerged. The goal of the symposium was to participate in the development and improvement of measures of well-being that go beyond traditional economic indicators such as the rates of employment and inflation. The topics addressed in the presentations and workshops included international experiences with social indicators, benchmark projects, community auditing, composite indicators, information gaps and data limitations, and barriers to the acceptance of social indicators. Recommendations for the development of social indicators in Canada are also included.
