Yukon Aboriginal Women's Council

Works to advance the interests of women of Indian or Inuit ancestry in the Yukon including Status, Non-Status, Indians and Metis. Supports and enforces the Indian Rights of the Status Indian women and the civil and human rights of all native women in the Yukon and Northern B.C. Helps Indian women increase their feeling of adequacy and their sense of responsibility through planning, developing and managing self-help projects. Encourages Indian women to assume a more positive and active part in developing skills to support their people. Promotes and aids in the development and preservation of Indian culture, arts and handicrafts.

Yukon Council on Aging

Forms a non profit organization dedicated to enhance the quality of life for Yukon Seniors and Elders by lobbying all levels of governments.

Kaushee's Place - Yukon Women's Transition Home

Shelter to women and their children who are leaving abusive relationships. Offers no cost thirty day crisis level stay and independent second stage level housing in a secure environment. Weekly women's support group for residents and non-residents, Legal Advocate and Child Care worker on site, 24 hour crisis line and drop-in outreach service.

Alzheimer's Support Group

Support services for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's; extensive lending library; support for local Special Care unit, Thomson Centre.

Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre

Offers advocacy and support for women throughout the Yukon. Provides information on community services, the legal rights of women, day care, housing, education, employment, health, maintenance and child support, birth control and family planning, and other issues of interest and concern to women.

Hospice Yukon Society

A non-profit, non-sectarian volunteer agency. Gives support for the terminally il and their families at home and in hospital. Other services provided include bereavement support for adults and children; library and public education concerning healthy grieving.

Second Opinion Society

A self-help alternative to psychiatry. A drop-in centre, resource library, crisis/support, rights protection and advocacy, regular workshops on healing alternatives, and support to the community.

Diabetes Education Centre

Provides two and a half day session every six weeks. Referral required from family physician.
