Cornerbrook Status of Women Council

In our more than 20 years of operation, The Corner Brook Status of Women Council has been engaging in activities to realize its Mandate. We participate in agency, activism and provide direct service for women. We have been operating since 1975, and incorporated since 1985. We are governed by a volunteer board consisting of 15 members, four of whom are the executive: Chairperson, Co-Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary. We hold monthly meetings participate in subcommittees to ensure efficient and reliable operation of the Women's Centre.

Multicultural Women's Organization of Newfoundland & Labrador

Works to identify the needs of multicultural women and provide social support in terms of cultural, social, political, economic and educational areas at the provincial level, and to be an advocate on issues dealing with immigrant and visible minority women. Provides speaker series and forums addressing issues and concerns of immigrant and visible minority women. Also produces a newsletter.

Forms an organization that promotes the social, economic and personal equality of women in Newfoundland and Labrador. Dedicated to the empowerment of all women while working within a feminist framework.

St. John's Morgentaler Clinic

Provides safe, legal abortion services. Newfoundland and Labrador women with MCP are fully insured, and therefore do not have to pay for abortion services at this clinic.

St. John's Native Friendship Centre Association
Assists Aboriginal people living in and visiting the St. John's area in obtaining access to Health Care, Social, Legal, and Education services, and to facilities which are not available in their own communities. Provides transportation, aids in securing accommodations, arranges training programs, organizes volunteer visits to those confined to hospitals and other institutions, and secures the provision of translators and interpreters. (See Details)
Corner Brook Women's Centre

Forms an organization that provides crisis intervention, short term supportive counseling, community education, outreach, professional development, policy consultation, community leadership, support housing, and space for a variety of self help and therapeutic groups.

Newfoundland and Labrador's Sexual Health Centre

Promotes responsible sexual practices and provides preventative healthcare and information. Services include birth control advice, pregnancy testing, testing and treatment for STDs, physicians’ clinics and educational workshops for the public.

DES Action Newfoundland & Labrador
Identifies, educates, supports, and advocates for people exposed to the drug DES (diethylstilbestrol), which was prescribed to some pregnant women between 1941 and 1971. Works to prevent similar public health problems, particularly in the field of reproductive health care.
