Work schedules in the retail sector have special challenges for work-family interactions.  The FTQ union confederation has identified work-family balancing as a priority, and there is a new provincial certification for employers in work-family balancing.  At the request of the FTQ, we are collaborating with a retail chain to look for solutions.  One avenue that has been identified is that of profiting from the diversity of personal situations to develop schedule types for different groups, enabling differing needs to mesh.  But the gendered division of labour poses a problem.  We will present results from observations, store documents and a questionnaire administered in 7 stores.

2. Web Conference: Revealing gendering structures and processes in working life- a methodological challenge

Examples from studies of gender, work and health in different sectors in Sweden.

Annika Härenstam, Professor, Department of Work Science, Göteborg University, Sweden
